She Maps x BHP:
Inspiring the Next Generation of Geospatial Leaders

Seeking expressions of interest
She Maps, in partnership with BHP, is offering secondary schools in Western Australia the opportunity to participate in a unique program in 2026, with the aim of raising awareness of and diversity in geospatial career pathways within the mining industry.
We are looking for 4 schools within Perth, Port Hedland, South Hedland and/or Newman to participate in the free pilot program.
Selected schools will receive:
- 3 days of hands-on indoor drone workshops for up to 180 students (split into 6 x 2.5 hour sessions, for up to 30 students each)
- Teacher professional development (in-person + digital resources) for up to 5 teachers
- A classroom drone kit for your school to keep
The program is designed for students in Years 7–10, with a curriculum focus on geography, digital technologies, and other STEM subjects, particularly where the school is seeking to strengthen students’ geospatial and digital technology skills.
The initiative aims to build geospatial skills, showcase real-world applications in mining, encourage diversity in STEM and promote geospatial career opportunities to groups that are underrepresented in the STEM field.
We are looking for schools that can:
- Provide appropriate facilities (e.g. a large indoor hall or basketball court)
- Allocate staffing support for workshop delivery
- Maximise student participation. Note: Students will only need to attend ONE drone workshop session (2.5 hours)
- Support nominated teachers to engage in professional development sessions and resources
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to supporting students into future pathways in geospatial science, mining, or STEM
- Engage students from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds
Please complete the following form to express your school’s interest by COB 26 September 2025.
Expressions of interest will be processed early October and successful schools will be notified in the early weeks of term 4.
We will work with each school individually to select suitable dates to deliver student workshops in terms 1 – 3, 2026.
