Drones are fantastic tools for STEM education, but like any technology, they can run into issues. If your CoDrone EDU isn’t behaving as expected, don’t worry! Here are some of the most common problems and how to fix them.

1. Drone won’t take off

  • Low battery: Ensure the battery is fully charged before flying.
  • Propeller issues: Check if any propellers are bent, chipped, or incorrectly placed. Replace damaged ones and ensure correct orientation.
  • Motor problems: If a motor isn’t spinning, it may need replacement. Match the motor’s wire colours correctly when installing a new one.

2. Drone drifts or flies unevenly

  • Propeller Placement: Make sure the propellers are installed in the correct positions (clockwise vs. counterclockwise).
  • Sensor Interference: Avoid flying over dark carpets or highly reflective surfaces, as these can interfere with the drone’s bottom sensors.
  • Calibration Needed: Perform a recalibration to reset the drone’s flight stability.

3. Connection issues between drone & controller

  • Pairing Problems: Ensure the controller and drone are properly paired. Follow the pairing steps in the user manual.
  • Signal Interference: Keep the drone within line of sight and avoid obstacles like walls or glass that can weaken the signal.
  • Antenna Positioning: Extend and point the controller’s antenna directly at the drone for the best connection.

4. Battery not charging properly

  • Overcharging: Avoid leaving the battery charging for more than an hour, as LiPo batteries can overheat.
  • Battery Drain: If the battery is completely drained, it may become puffy and unusable. Store batteries at 50% charge when not in use for long periods.
  • Charger Issues: Ensure the charger is properly connected and check for red LED indicators to confirm charging.

Final tips

  • Always follow the pre-flight checklist to prevent common issues.
  • Keep spare propellers and batteries handy for quick replacements.
  • Regularly inspect and maintain your drone to ensure smooth operation.

By following these troubleshooting steps, you’ll keep your CoDrone EDU flying smoothly and maximise your learning experience!
